West Papua Marcus Yenu interview 2010 WPNA

Uploaded on Jul 8, 2010
After this video was filmed, long-time activist Marcus Yenu returned to West Papua and was arrested and imprisoned. Although he has now been released from prison, Marcus's life is still in danger. He and his family are frequently threatened and terrorized by the Indonesian intelligence. The reason? For organising peaceful demonstrations and raising awareness about the current situation in West Papua. West Papuans ask that the international community monitor the situation in West Papua, including the safety of Marcus Yenu and other political prisoners and activists. Human rights abuses, torture and intimidation still occur in West Papua. On Thursday 8th July, mass demonstrations will be held all over West Papua, including other parts of Indonesia, Australia, England and the Netherlands. Indigenous West Papuans will publicly refuse Special Autonomy and demand their right to a referendum.
